30 years production of “glass for life”18 employees, one production hall and a production facility in single shift operation: that’s how Berthold Dobbe became an independent businessman by launching his Teuto-Glas venture in 1980. »Managing director Michael Dobble sums up the beginnings of the firm that was founded by his father: “Being one of the first free manufacturers of insulating glazing, it was quite a chal-lenge for us to break into the market.” Nevertheless, the 1980s saw Teuto-Glas developing at a breathtaking speed. Nowadays, the company with its headquarters in Augustdorf boasts seven halls with a production area of 13,000 square metres and four cutting-edge production lines working in multiple shifts. About 4,000 window glasses are manufactured here on a daily basis for the window industry and retail. In April 2008, another production site with three additional production halls was established in Gildehaus nearby Bad Bentheim, with a daily output of up to 2,000 square metres of insu-lating glass. Personnel has increased tenfold, with up to 25 temporary employees joining the regular workforce of 160 at peak times. The company has been relying on cutting-edge technology right from the start. Manufacture and processing are largely automated. Being three times six metres in size and 3 to 12 milli-metres in thickness, the raw glass panels are cut in a computer-controlled cutting plant to minimise refuse. Any remains are recycled. Further automated processes include washing and checking of the panes, joining of frames and glass, filling with gas and pressing to achieve an optimum of insulation. The process is persistently monitored by the personnel. “We are using cutting-edge machinery,” explains Michael Dobbe. And that’s one of the company's strong points: the ability to implement individual require-ments at short notice. “Our production is limited to Germany - we can deliver any orders within two to three days thanks to that home field advantage.” A fleet of sixteen trucks with trailers and cranes for loading and unloading plus four semi-trucks with trailers are available for the job. Another factor for success is the broad spectrum of products provided by Teuto-Glas. Core products include insulating glazing for the areas of low emission, sun protection, sound reduction and safety. Modern architecture also does rely on glass as an important building material. About 200 different glass types and a host of forms with facets, sand blasting, georgian bars or patterned glasses are therefore available from Teuto-Glas. |
